Making a Crochet Coaster
Crochet Coasters are a perfect beginner project. They also make a perfect gift when you make them in a set.
To follow these instructions you will need to know how to make a magic ring. An alternative method is to chain 4, slip stitch into 1st chain, and work into the middle.
The stitches used are slip stitches, single crochets, half double crochets, double crochets, and treble crochets.
Supplies
- Medium 4 weight yarn
- The thicker the yarn the bigger the coaster and the thinner the yarn the smaller the coaster.
- If you are a beginner, a medium weight yarn is recommended (the weight is found on the label).
- 5.5 size hook
- Recommended hook based on the yarn (found on label of the yarn being using).
- Tapestry needle.
Create Base
- Create a magic ring or use the chain 4 method.
- Chain two to set the magic ring.
Round 1 of Double Crochets
- Work in 12 double crochets.
- Pull on tail end to close hole.
- Slip stitch to the first double crochet to complete the round.
Round 2 of Double Crochets
- Start with a chain of 2 (this is to reach the height of the double crochets).
- Work in 2 double crochets into each double crochet from the 1st round.
- Slip stitch to the 1st double crochet from round 1 to complete round.
Round 3 of Double Crochets
Repeat step 3.
Round 4 of Creating Ruffles
- Start round with a chain of 1.
- In the 1st stitch work in a single crochet then a half double crochet.
- In the 2nd stitch work in a double crochet then a treble crochet.
- In the 3rd stitch work in a treble crochet then a double crochet.
- In the 4th stitch work in a half double crochet then a single crochet.
Round 4 of Creating Ruffles
- Continue working the 8 crochets into the next 4 stitches until the 1st single crochet of the round is reached.
- To end round slip stitch to 1st single crochet.
Fasten Off
- Chain 1.
- Cut working yarn.
- Pull yarn through.
Sew in Ends
- Flip coaster over.
- Insert end into needle and hide into stitches.
- Your coaster is ready to use when you flip it over.
