Cut the world map paper into equal strips (about 2–2.5cm wide). Make sure the strips are neat and straight.

  1. The map paper was carefully folded and wrapped around the white strip, securing it with paper glue. This created sturdy, double-layered, double-sided folding bands that won't easily tear.

Organizing the Vertical and Horizontal Strands

Once a sufficient number of sturdy map strips were prepared, they were separated into two groups to prepare for weaving:

  1. Longer Strands: Kept at full length to serve as the main lengthwise warp.
  2. Shorter Strands: Cut evenly to serve as the horizontal weft pieces.

The classic over-under weaving process began:

  1. The long strips were laid out vertically side-by-side.
  2. The shorter strips were woven horizontally through them, alternating the "over and under" pattern with each row.
  3. The weave was kept tight and compact to ensure there were no loose gaps in the material.

Securing the Expandable Sides

  1. Hot glue was applied down one outer face of the "V" gusset, sticking it firmly to the back inner wall of the woven wallet.
  2. Glue was then applied to the opposite outer face of the "V" gusset, and the front flap of the woven wallet was folded up and pressed tightly against it.

Installing the Velcro Fasteners

With the main pocket expanded and secured, add the finishing closing mechanism.

  1. Fold the top remaining third of the woven sheet down over the front pocket to serve as the main closure flap.
  2. Align and hot-glue a strip of black Velcro to the underside of the flap, and position the matching piece on the front face of the pocket for a strong, reliable snap closure.

Anchoring the Metal Chain Strap

Before sealing the bag sides, integrate the metallic chain strap directly into the structure for maximum carrying strength.

  1. Position the two ends of your long metal chain on the inside of the bag along the top left and right corners of the main pocket walls.
  2. Apply a generous amount of high-strength hot glue over the final chain links to anchor them securely against the inner frame, ensuring they won’t pull out under weight.

Making Flowers

  1. Using a small plastic cup inverted on your workspace as a helpful third hand, begin arranging the curved map petals around your central bud.
  2. Secure the base of each new petal with glue, overlapping them slightly. Working upside down over the cylinder helps maintain a uniform, rounded shape as the rose begins to widen.

Add Flower

  1. Take your handcrafted map rose and test its placement on the center of the envelope flap.
  2. Apply a generous amount of glue to the flat base of the rose and press it firmly onto the center of the flap. The rose acts as both a striking 3D visual centerpiece and a practical weight to help keep the flap resting beautifully in place.

Final Outcome

IMG-20260525-WA0018.jpg
  1. Structural Integrity through Design: Using multi-layered, folded paper strips in a tight 1 \times 1 basket weave gives the clutch unexpected durability, proving that paper can become resilient when engineered correctly.
  2. Visual Harmony: The stark, grid-like pattern of the woven bag provides the perfect geometric contrast to the fluid, spiraled layers of the central dimensional rose.
  3. Eco-Friendly Aesthetic: The vibrant blues of the oceans and the multi-colored landmasses naturally create a beautiful, cohesive color palette, eliminating the need for artificial dyes or complex finishes.

This completed piece is a standout example of wearable upcycling—perfectly balancing precision drafting, structural craft, and creative flair into a one-of-a-kind statement accessory.
