(Mostly) Eco-Friendly Grass Bracelets and Rings

IMG_2904.jpg

Good evening, have you wanted to make a gift in bulk? Or maybe you're someone who's worried about our wildlife choking on plastic packages or chewing on metal bands. If neither of those apply, that's alright, this gift is for anyone. It's low cost, variable, and it would be 100% biodegradable if it weren't for the string. Please do not overlook nature's offers.

Supplies

Some sturdy string

Needlegrass(used here)

Alternatives may include:

  1. Vines
  2. Flexible branches
  3. Palm fronds
  4. Pine needles
  5. Or really any long grass type. The choice is yours.

Collect

First step is pretty obvious, you must collect your grass, material, of choice. The one I used for the bracelet is needlegrass.

Tie the Base

Straighten them out and tie them at the base. This is most important for the upcoming step.

Braid Them

This is where, in addition to your material of choice, it gets more customizable. There are other braid types and methods, but I stuck with the simple one here. After your done braiding, tie the top together as well.

Loop and Tie

Measure out how big or small you want it to be, then mark it. On the overlapped points tie one ore two knots around it.

Trim

This final step is also simple, just trim the excess off, and now you're done. :)

Rings can be created the same way, just on a smaller scale. You may be able to use the excess you cut off.

Because they're plants, they start to change color overtime, which I find to be a neat addition.
