The objective of this project was to create a tool for the Fanuc ER-4iA robot capable of holding a pencil in both a perpendicular and an inclined(45°) position.

Supplies

we used a qidi plus 4 3d printer and the material is a plc

Draft of the Idea

Cattura.PNG

We began by sketching our initial concept, which proved to be very close to the final design. We then incorporated holes for M10 nuts; screws are threaded into these nuts to function as a locking mechanism for the pencil. The nut is secured in place with adhesive. We also implemented a safety feature allowing the pencil to retract in the event of a collision, preventing accidental damage.

Design on Creo

Subsequently, we completed the 3D modeling using Creo and generated the G-code to print the component(to generate the G-code we have used QIDIStudio).

For physical manufacturing, we used a Qidi X-Plus 4 printer with the following parameters:

  1. Material: PLA
  2. Layer Height: 0.2 mm
  3. Infill: 40% (honeycomb pattern)

The part was printed in a vertical orientation, which required the use of supports generated automatically by the slicing software.
