Phone Latch

I made a phone latch to prevent basic thefts from robbers. The picture I have included above is the final design and should be able to help prevent pickpocketing. It has a phone latch, and a cover that can be fully attached on to the phone latch and can completely help with stopping robbers. The steps I have included below are the instructions to make this.

The Beginning

The first step is to open up Fusion. You need to create a sketch on the bottom plane and make a rectangle 101.6 inches by 50 inches. This is done to make it fit in the average-sized pocket.

Extrusion

Extrude the rectangle up 7 inches so that there is enough space for this prototype, which can house small phones and other small objects.

Creating the Pocket

Make a sketch on the top face of the extrusion, which is an 80 by 30 rectangle and center it at the top face of the previous extrusion. After that, extrude downwards by -6.7 inches to make a small pocket to store the phone. The practicality of this is again only for small phones and objects, and when made, can properly secure the phone along with the further parts of the design in the later steps.

Create the Cover Holes

Make a 1mm spacing to the left and 1mm upward to make the location of the hole between the phone pocket hole and the cover hole itself. Create two 4.5 by 4.5 mm holes consecutively on any side, or four on all corners if you would like to do so. This will be helpful for the later step, which is creating the cover itself to secure the phone. Once done, extrude these holes by -6.7 inches as well.

Creating the Cover

The cover consists of a 101.6 by 80mm rectangle, extruded up by 1.27 mm. Add the sticks 5 mm away from the edge and accordingly to the holes above on the phone pocket. Doing so will successfully create the cover needed for this design.

Forming the Latch

To create the latch, create a sketch on the back side of the pocket and create a rectangle that is centered and should measure 50.058 by 7.8 mm. Doing so will help form the base of this edge that will be built upon in the next few steps.

Extruding Upon the Latch

Make a rectangle that should cover the entire top part of the latch, to be exact, about 50.058 by 15 mm. Once done, extrude the rectangle 25 mm. This will help the latch develop a firm structure so that it's harder to break if it suffers any damage.

Creating the Hanging Edge

Make another rectangle that is 50.058 by 12.8 mm. Extrude 25 mm out to create the next part of the hanging edge. Once completed, you will nearly have the latch done.

Finishing the Latch

Make another sketch at the bottom face of the previous extrusion. Make a 50.058 by 10 mm rectangle on the underside of the previous extrusion and extrude it out 20 mm to finish out the latch.

The Final Design

The final design is shown above. The prototype is currently only working for phones such as iPhone minis. It consists of four rods instead of two for easier accessibility for the user. It still has the hanging end and the cover, but does not have the two extra rods for further lockage, as the supports in the printing make it a difficult obstacle and the rods are already tight enough. The final design should be able to make a difference in preventing phone thefts from occurring and hopefully make an impact for the user.
