Supplies

Sandpaper (320 or 400 grit), Primer, Colored paint, rubbing alcohol for cleaning, Airbrush for stencils, masking tape, cardstock for stencils, clear coat enamel to finish,

Rough It Up

1.jpg

After removing all moving parts I was ready to rough the surface up for maximum adhesion. In this step I took the hard case and cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and followed that up with 320grit sandpaper to scuff it up. Clean it well afterwards and apply masking tape where you want to keep it original black color.

Prime It

Here I simply added 2 layers of primer that is made for plastics. Note: I did not paint the inner edge or inside of the case.

Base Color

4.jpg

I chose a drab green spray enamel (matte) color to use as a base color. Here you can see the top and bottom with the first stencil on the bottom. These stencils you will see I printed and cut out meticulously by hand.

Stencil Work

Designing the stencils from scratch is difficult. Find some that you like online and print them. If there are multiple colors, it will require layers. Since this is a post-apocalypse design, they don't have to be perfect.

Details and Clear Coat

Here I added some brown paint brush strokes randomly and sparingly to make it look weathered. I also added splatters of lime green and red paint for effect. After it all dried I used enamel clear coat and made sure it was dry for a total of 3 coats before the final step.

Reinstall Hardware

Here just reinstall the hardware as it was making sure not to damage the O-ring. I will be updating this project soon, once I have the inner layout done.
