Putting Your Favorite Map on an Object Using Fusion 360.
This project will go over how you can put any map onto your 3d model as efficiently as possible. For this example I will put the map onto a 3d cube.
Supplies
You'll need fusion 360, a map, and a model to put the map onto. The map I chose is from a video game called "Middle Earth, Shadow of War" it is a Lord of the Rings video game. It is a location in the game called Minis Ithil.
Open Up Fusion 360 Then Your Model
You open up fusion 360, then you open up your model.
Decide What Map You Would Like to Make
Decide on your map of choice, it could be something in real life or it could be a fictional map, such as the one I chose.
Importing Your Map Into Fusion 360.
To import your map into fusion you:
1st -> Click on the canvas option on the top bar.
2nd -> Click on the "Insert form my computer" Button
3rd -> Find the location of your map's file.
4th -> Click on your file and click on the open button
5th -> Click on the plane you would like the map to be on. I placed it on the XY plane.
6th -> Choose the dimensions you would like the map to be at and location of your map.
Outline the Main Features of Your Map
You take basic shapes and draw them over the features of your map to your best ability. Don't worry about accuracy, the rough details will be there and will be recognizable.
Embossing or Debossing Your Map Onto Your Model
The emboss command in the "Create" dropdown on the top bar will allow you to place your sketch onto your object. You can select the sketch features you would like to emboss/deboss onto your model then select the depth/height the map would be at.
Admire Your Work
If you are unsatisfied with the look of your map, in the previous step you can change what gets embossed to change up the look of the map alternatively, you can change the sketch and make it more detailed if you like.
