Repair Keurig K-Mini Plus Coffee Maker With No Lights

I had a Keurig K-Mini Plus coffee maker that is probably the simplest of Keurig coffee makers. However, when I plugged it in, I couldn't get the power light to come on. Tried various debugging methods but it was just dead.

It turns out the problem (and I believe this is a common problem with this type of coffee maker) is the thermal fuse was thrown. This happens with this type of maker because it is a single brew type of maker, i.e., you pour the water you want to brew into the reservoir and that's was the coffee maker uses. If you run the maker without water, it gets super hot and the thermal fuse trips.

Sadly, the only way to correct this problem is to dissemble the maker. Fortunately, you don't have to disassemble it much to get to the fuse.

Spudger or thin flat bladed screwdriver

Maybe a thin Philips head screwdriver but it needs a long shaft.

From the front of the machine, pry the left and right sides of the U-shaped cover. There are 3 plastic tabs on each side of the front. There is 1 tab on each side at the bottom. There is 1 double pointed tab at the top rear.

I pried both the left and right sides apart and then struggled to get the remaining tabs to unclip. If you are able to get the at this point you can just slide the cover off. However, if you are like me, you may want to loosen the bottom.

I wasn't able to get the cover off so I removed the 4 Philips screws from the bottom of the machine. Two of them are easy to get out but the back two are recessed deep so I needed a long screwdriver to remove them.

This gave me enough wiggle room to slide the cover off. NOTE: Be careful with the wires on the side since they will probably get caught in the clips as you remove the cover.

Once you get the cover off, locate the thermal fuse. I'm told that the earlier models may not have a thermal fuse but this is the V2 version and it does. Look for the metal pipe with a metal snake looking pipe wrapped around it. Near the top there is a white flat round attachment that is the fuse. On the front of the fuse, there is a hole that you need to poke something through to reset the fuse. I used a paper clip bent at a right angle. You may feel it reset or you may hear it pop back into position. I poked it a few times to make sure I got it reset.

When you reassemble the maker, just reverse the steps. Be careful with the wires sticking out of the side.

Assuming you did everything correctly, and assuming the fuse was the problem, when you plug the maker back in the power light will light and you can brew some coffee to celebrate.
