Pendant and Glow in the Dark Ring With Stone!

This is very special ones. client sent me a stone that he collected when he and his now-wife went to their first hiking trip when she was his girlfriend. ^_^ I was assigned to make a pendant with cat imprint, as the both love their cat, and a finger ring which would give a vibe of raw enchanted forest object, like a cracked glowing stone which is wrapped with vines. Both were supposed to be 10th anniversary gift for her. ^_^

Because I had to made 2 items from a single provided stone, first I had to cut off the stone into 2 pieces roughly according to the preumed stone size of the ring an the pendant.

With a marker, I drew the shape roughly on the stone. Then I attached the small diamon disk grinder on flex shaft an started to grind. Had to make sure to put water on the stone frequently in between during the grinding so that the disk stays cool and and stone particles gets washed away from the crevasse.

I just turned on the flex shaft with the same diamon disk grinder and smoothed out both of the cut out stones by rubbing over the rotating surface of the grinder. later I sanded both of the cut stones with a bit finer grit sandpaper.

First I drew 2 cat paws on the stone that's going to be a pendant. Then attached a narrow cylinder diamon burr on flex shaft and grinded deep, following the drawn paw, in some spots I used Pointed diamond burr for precision. Then with the cylinder diamon bur, I slowly grinded to a point through to make a hole to put a cord through. I used a drillpress instead of flex shaft this time for better stability of the burr. Again, made sure to frequently put water over the stone while grinding.

Then I just put a black waxed cord through and made a fisherman's knot at the end. And Voila! The mendant is DONE!

Now comes to the finger ring. I took a chisle tool and started to chiles crack pattern manually very slowly and carefully.

After I was happy with the pattern and depth, I put some glow in the dark powder into the cracks in a good amount so the the cracks get filled well. The with a needle, I took small amount of super glue bit by bit and put over the glow powder filled cracks slowly. after it was dry, I sanded it with a sandpaper to remove the residue.

I marked out the ring size on a ring mandrel. Then I rolled out very thing Fimo Black Polymer clay snakes and started to wrap around the ring mandrel and the stone as I liked. to make the vines more woody, I tried to make some woody textures just by dabbing few abstract lines with exacto knife.

Then dabbed some copper wax paste over the clay softly.

Baked in the oven according to the polymer clay package instruction. And Volia! The ring is also done!
