A simple LEGO apple with removable slices.

Supplies

Red: 2x4 plate (4), 2x10 plate (8), 3x3 slope brick (8), 2x4 short-slope brick (8), 2x4 brick (16), 1x6 plate (8), 1x4 plate (8)

Brown: 2x2 brick (2), 2x2 cylinder brick (1), twig piece (1)

Green: small branching leaf piece (1)

Any color: 2x2 brick (3), 2x2 plate (4), 1x2/2x2 downward SNOT bracket (8)

Build the Core

The core of the apple will support its four slices and the stem. It uses SNOT bricks to help build a more rounded, apple-like shape (a technique I learned from watching Master Builder Alec on YouTube; see this video for an example).

  1. Stack two 2x2 bricks.
  2. Add two SNOT brackets on top.
  3. Add two layers of 2x2 plates and then two more SNOT brackets facing the other edges.
  4. Repeat this twice. Make sure the bottom 2x2 brick is brown on one segment so the bottom of the apple is the correct color.
  5. Next, stack the two segments, keeping the brown 2x2 on bottom and ensuring the lower and upper SNOT bricks on each segment are on the same faces as each other.
  6. If the upper SNOT bricks of one segment are on the same face as the lower SNOT bricks of the other, the slices will not attach properly.

Add the Stem

The classic stem-and-leaf combo helps clarify that the build is an apple, and only takes a few bricks to install. This will also complete the core of the apple.

  1. Add a brown 2x2 brick and a brown 2x2 cylinder brick to the top of the core, in that order.
  2. Place a small branching leaf piece in the center of the cylinder brick and secure it with the twig piece to form the stem and a leaf.

Build the Slices

Each slice of the apple will form a quarter of its shape. They will rest on the core's SNOT bricks but can be removed if you want to "slice" the apple.

  1. Attach two red 2x10 plates directly on top of each other.
  2. Add a red 2x4 slope brick to both ends of the plate, sloping outwards.
  3. Tile the space between with three red 2x4 bricks.
  4. Add two red 3x3 slope bricks on top, again sloping outwards.
  5. Place a red 2x4 brick in between.
  6. Put a red 2x4 plate on top.
  7. Repeat this four times.

Fill the Gap

While the apple could be completed without this step, it also leaves a fairly large gap between the slices and the core. This gap can be reduced by adding a few plates to each slice.

  1. On the bottom of each slice, add a 1x6 and 1x4 plate.
  2. Add another 1x6 and 1x4 on top.

Final Assembly

  1. Place each of the four slices onto the core.
  2. They should reach about halfway up the brown 2x2 cylinder brick on one end and to the bottom of the brown 2x2 brick on the other.
  3. Opposing pairs will be at the same height, but adjacent pairs will be slightly off.

Apple Complete!

Congratulations! You now have a completed LEGO apple. It makes a cool decoration, and its slices are easily removable, so you can also "slice" the apple if you want.
