Smart Automated Irrigation & Plant Care System Using Upcycled Enclosure and ESP8266
In this project, I designed an automated, smart plant irrigation system built inside an upcycled, repurposed plastic bottle and enclosure. It uses an ESP8266 microcontroller and a soil moisture sensor to continuously monitor hydration levels, triggering a 5V mini water pump through a relay module whenever the soil gets dry.
Supplies
1 × ESP8266 NodeMCU Microcontroller
1 × Soil Moisture Sensor Module
1 × 5V Single-Channel Relay Module
1 × 5V DC Mini Submersible Water Pump & Tubing
1 × 7-Segment Display / Shift Register (or Status LEDs)
Upcycled plastic bottle/container (for the reservoir and enclosure)
Breadboard and Jumper Wires
5V DC Power Supply / USB Cable
Wiring the Sensors, Relay, and Upcycled Chassis
1.Mount the relay and sensor comparator securely inside the upcycled plastic box to keep connections isolated and clean.
2.Connect the soil moisture probe to analog input A0 of the ESP8266.
3.Connect the relay signal pin to digital GPIO pin D1.
4.Wire the 7-segment display on the breadboard to show live soil moisture readings.
5.Wire the 5V mini pump in series through the relay's COM and NO terminals.
