Tap to Pay Watch Strap Mod

This mod adds an affordable discreet tap to pay to any watch with a velcro style loop band.

1. You will need one tap to pay card (I used a $5 cash app card) mainly because it's cheap and not wired directly to my bank.
2. Velcro wall mounting tape. One male Velcro patch is required a pack of wall mounting Velcro is about $4 from Walmart.
3. Strong pair of Scissors to cut through the card and Velcro.
4. An apple watch style Velcro loop band.

Cut a Velcro strips from the patch that is as wide as your strap. In my case my strap is 22 mm wide.

I would also say there is a limit on how wide your strap may be as the RFID chip on modern cards have a boost antenna embedded in the card and the chip has its own antenna. It would be wise to stick to straps no less than 18 mm.

After cutting a strip make sure to align it with the chip side of the card on the back.

Use your scissors to cut a rough cut out of the area with Velcro.

Then use your scissors to refine the cuts until your card is compact as can be.

In my case I did not want to infringe on the antenna so I left quite a bit of space. So a 20 x 25 (mm) rectangle approximately.

The final step is to find the right spot to lay the chip in the velcro strap.

For me that was under my wrist opposite to the watch. As that is the flattest section of my wrist where the tag can rest properly.

Update: This position proved to be too far for most card readers to read. I have since moved the tag to the outside portion of the watch as shown in the second and third image.

I did not take pictures of this mod working but have tested it.

I have done a similar mod where instead of using Velcro I simply used pliers and a lighter to pend the cut strip around my resin strap on my modded F-91W. Show in the last videos of it working.
