The Hanging Gardens of Babylon Plant Pot

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon are classified as one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World. Known for it's advance waterways created before its time. However, the gardens were destroyed a long time before they could be properly documented. Even with no documentation, the gardens were recognized as an ancient world wonder.

Figuring Out What to Do for Layer Format

Due to the lack of documentation and multiple drawings and paintings that vary from one another. Even if some things differ, there is still common ground. Most paintings show a stair format, and others show more of a pyramid format. To represent both, I have chosen to do a pyramid format that has one side bigger than the other side to represent the stair format.

Top Layer

Starting from the top leaves more detailing for later, while going towards the bottom layers. However, starting from the top makes it easier to prototype a design that I could copy and paste for the lower layers. In the end, I chose to do arched windows, which are common for the rest of the design. As well as the stairs that are facing towards each other, and that are on opposing sides of the top layer.

Medium Layer

Going down towards the middle is where I wanted to start to some variation. With that in mind, I switched the positions of the stairs from the sides to the back and the front. As for the windows, they are still arched.

Bottom Layer

After reaching the bottom, I figured out that I wanted to leave a space in the front and the bottom to make a pipe for water drainage. The windows are arched; however, the stairs are facing away from each other. This allows the walls on the bottom floor to have a dent, making it more unique than the other floors.

Water Drainage

To get to the point of actually having a plant in this pot. I have placed a drainage pipe on the front and the back. To make sure that the water drains properly, the pot's bottom is chambered or angled towards the middle. Along with making a drainage plate that will sit at the bottom and can be removed to drain excess water.

Foliage

Since it is a garden, I wanted to show places where plants will most likely be.

The End

By creating this plant pot based on The Hanging Gardens of Babylon. I wanted to accentuate the waterways that made the gardens so ahead of their time. I also really need to make a pot that I could put my plant in.
