The Smallest Internet Radio
This probably is the smallest Internet Radio on the world. It is derivative of the open source yoRadio project.
The Construction
The radio is designed by simple assembling of two small boards. The first one is ESP32 C3 Supermini development board - widely available in lot online Internet shops. It costs around 2 USD. The other part is small custom bord from Tindie containing PCM5102A I2S Audio codec and LM4880M Headphone amplifier. Of course another audio codec board based on the PCM5102A chip can be used. Such boards are also available in the online selling platforms. Their disadvantage - they do not have power amplifier. Their output is linear and external amplifier have to be used. If you decide to implement the first version - both modules are simply to solder together using a pin header. The pins are aligned to match together. For the second version the following connection have to be implemented:
I2S_DOUT - IO3
I2S_BCLK - IO4
I2S_LRC - IO2
VIN - 5V
GND - GND
Flashing the Software
The compiled BIN file can be downloaded from here.
You have to unzip the yoRadio.ino.merged.zip.
For flashing the software can be used the ESP32 Flashing tool
On the pictures you can see the settings used.
Setup the Radio - Connecting to the WLAN
After successful flashing the radio goes in AP (Access Point Mode) . It have to appear as separate WLAN in your list of the available networks : "yoRadioAP". You have to connect to it. If password is required use 12345987.
When connected give the following address in your browser : http://192.168.4.1. The screen shown on the picture will appear. Enter there your WLAN credentials and save them. The radio will boot again and connect to your WLAN. It will be now in Station Mode.
Setup the Web Interface
Now you have to find the IP, which the radio uses in your WLAN. For that purpose can be used the Advanced IP scanner tool. On the picture can be seen its setting. Scanning your WLAN Network can give some active IPs. If you do not know what is what there, you can try all of them giving them in your browser until the page shown on the second picture appear. Now you have to unzip the second file downloaded from here - it is whole folder. You have to click the button "Chose files" in the web page and select all files from the unzipped folder. They are 11 files. After that press "Upolad files". It will take some time. If the page does not update automatically, type again the its IP again in your browser.
Making the Playlist
Now you have to make your playlist - the name of the radio and its url. The attached CSV file contains a lot of radios. You can upload this list to your Internet radio. Click the musical note symbol, click "Import", select the playlist.csv file and finally save it. You can also manually add or delete your favourite stations (up to 255). You can find their URLs using this website.
