The Ultimate M10A3 Frag Grenade Prop

IMG_0196.JPG

I have been designing cardboard projects for the past four years of my life. Recently, I found the perfect cardboard grenade modeled after the M10A3, and now it is my pleasure to make my model public for everyone to make.

Supplies

Picture contains some of the materials, but below is the complete list of materials.

  1. X-acto knife
  2. Hot glue gun
  3. Cardboard
  4. Green and orange paint
  5. 2-4 Paper clips
  6. Retractable pen (for the spring)
  7. 1 Toothpick
  8. Pebbles (for weight)

Cut Casing and Glue

First cut out 6 sides with the custom template. It works the best if you cut a 45 degree under the edge of the sides to make them fit together more snuggly. Next, use your hot glue gun to make the cylindrical tube for the casing. Finally, glue the tube to a piece of cardboard and let dry. Use your X-Acto to cut the sheet flush with the tube and reinforce it with more glue for extra strength.

Make It Heavy

In this step you will fill the tube with pea gravel. It works best if you put a layer then some glue on repeat till full. Then you will glue another piece of cardboard and then cut it flush with the tube.

Give It the Frag Squares

For this step you need to cut out 24 squares for the fragmentation part of the grenade. Glue four to each side of the grenade then reinforce the squares with glue so they don't come off, which is very ugly.

Firing Mechanism

Here you take to pieces of cardboard with a small slant and glue them about a 1/4 inch from each other. Then bend two paperclips to make the catch rings so the spring does not fling the trigger. Finally, add the spring to make the trigger fly. The trigger is made by glueing a few popsicles sticks to cardboard then a toothpick to catch the paper clips.

Finished Grenade

Congratulations you just finished your own prop grenade.

(optional) Paint

If you want it to look really good, then you can use some cheap acrylic paint from hobby lobby and paint it green.

If there are any tips for how i can improve my instructible or if there is anything that you would like me to try to recreate with cardboard, please say.
