Tree Bling
After my favorite tree in my backyard had some dead branches removed, I thought it could use some decorations where the branches used to me. I love jewelry and decided that my tree would love some tree bling!
Supplies
24 gauge galvanized steel wire
Krylon Glitter Blast diamond dust spray paint
small rocks
Prepare the Rocks
First, place a sheet of cardboard on the ground to protect the surface from spray paint.
Next, lay small rocks on the sheet. Make sure to leave spaces between the rocks so that each rock can be painted on all sides.
When spray painting the rocks, be sure to coat each side evenly. Wait for the paint to dry, then flip the rocks and spray the back side.
Select a Starting Point
Pick a good place on the tree to start the tree bling. Wrap the galvanized wire a few times around the top branch to anchor the wire in place. If you can keep the wire in the package, it won't get tangled up.
Attach Your First Rock
Now it's time to use the wire to make a cage for the first rock. I chose 24 gauge wire because it is really easy to bend. Hold the rock in one hand and use the other to wrap the wire tightly around the rock. When the wire meets itself at the top of the rock, twist the wire to secure the wrap. Repeat this process of wrapping and twisting until the rock is securely placed in the wire.
Add More Rocks
Keep going! Attach more rocks to the wire using the same method described above. When you get to the lower tree branch, wrap the wire around the branch and add more rocks. When you get to the upper tree branch, wrap the wire around the branch and add more rocks.
Finish With a Ring
Once you've added all the rocks and are happy with your design, it's time to anchor the bling in place. And what better way to finish tree bling but with a ring? Take your wire and wrap it over and over again in one place to create a ring. Use the cutter attached to the wire package to cut the wire and finish your tree bling!
