Turtle Saver Trashcan
The Turtle Saver Trashcan is a next-generation sustainable waste management system designed to significantly reduce single-use plastic consumption in households while improving hygiene and efficiency in waste separation. It eliminates the need for disposable plastic bin bags entirely, replacing them with a reusable, long-life engineered structure. Unlike conventional bins that rely on continuous plastic waste generation, this system is built around a modular 3D-printed design, meaning that if any component becomes damaged or worn out, it can be individually reprinted and replaced without discarding the entire unit. This significantly extends product lifespan and supports a circular, repair-based consumption model instead of a throwaway system.
The design incorporates a magnetic sealing lid system, which ensures a tight and consistent closure of the bin. This magnetic closure significantly reduces and effectively prevents the escape of unpleasant odors from the waste chamber, improving hygiene in indoor environments and enhancing user experience without relying on mechanical locking systems or additional consumables.
The system is manufactured using PETG PRO ECO filament, a recycled and mechanically robust material ideal for functional engineering applications. With an estimated price of approximately Β£15 per kilogram, PETG PRO ECO provides an affordable and environmentally responsible production material. Each unit requires around 20 kg of filament in a full-solid design, but optimized engineering reduces this to a realistic 25% average infill, lowering effective material usage to approximately 5 kg per bin while maintaining structural strength and durability.
The design includes a dual-chamber system with a 65L compartment for solid waste and a 6.5L liquid separation chamber, improving waste segregation at the source and reducing odor, contamination, and decomposition inside the bin. The modular structure also allows for easy maintenance and individual part replacement, ensuring that no entire unit needs to be discarded due to minor damage.
With regular maintenance using 70% ethanol cleaning, the system achieves a lifespan of approximately 5 to 8 years, replacing the need for around 700 plastic waste bags per household over the same period.
