Add All Sugars
Within the mixing bowl, add in the melted butter, ¼ cup of Brown sugar, and ½ cup of granulated white sugar. Proceed to then whisk the ingredients until all blended together.
Blend Eggs + Sugars
Add all the remaining wet ingredients into the mixing bowl. This includes the 1 large egg and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Whisk together until evenly blended.
Add Dry Ingredients
Pour in the 1 ¾ cups of all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Keep mixing until all the added contents are no longer separated with the rest of the dough.
Mix Together Dough
Slowly pour in the 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips while mixing at the same time. Keep mixing with clean hands until the chips are equally distributed.
Prepare Baking Sheet
Prepare the baking tray by either using a non-stick sheet or a tray covered with parchment paper.
Prepare Portions of Cookie Dough
Using a regular household spoon, scoop out a portion of cookie dough and neatly roll into a ball. Continue until the entire batch of cookie dough has been used.
Bake the Cookies
Place the completed baking tray in the oven for 10 minutes. Be careful placing the tray within the oven by using oven mittens.
Cool the Baked Cookies
Remove the cookies after the baking time has completed or when the edges of the cookie appear to be slightly browning. Cool for at least 6 minutes before consuming.
Reflect on Baking Experience
Here are some common experiences to better help you learn and reflect about this baking process!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Is it okay for my melted butter to have changed color or be really hot?
A: No, this is generally not recommended as this can impact the consistency of the cookie at the end of the baking process.
Q: Why did my cookies turn out so dry and crumbly?
A: You likely added too much all-purpose flour into the cookie dough. This can result in the dry texture you are referring too!
Q: Why did my cookies end up cooling to a very hard consistency?
A: This could have been because of adding too much brown sugar or overworking the dough! Be sure to always mix until everything is evenly dispersed but never more!
Q: Why did my cookies end up baking extremely soft within the middle?
A: Raw cookie centers is often because the baking temperature was too high or that the cookies were removed too early. Large cookie dough balls can also result in the raw centers.
Q: Why are the bottoms of my cookies burnt?
A: The oven temperature being too hot or the baking tray being placed closer to the lower heating element could have contributed to the increased color towards the bottom of the cookies.
Q: Why did my cookies end up so cake-like?
A: This is also a very possible instance of overmixing the dough as too much air was added in.
Additional Notes
Modifying Cookie Size
Feel free to modify the size of the cookies by increasing or decreasing the scale of the cookie dough balls!
Small Cookies: This will be best for large celebrations and occasions. The cookies will turn out great and can be enjoyed by many!
Medium Cookies: The consistency/texture of this cookie size would be the most ideal as there is more surface thus having a more distinguishable crispy edge and soft center.
Large Cookies: Just like the medium sized cookies, the surface size will be ideal to have amazing rich textures. The main benefit for this cookie type would be just add some shock factor!
