DIY Glass Jar Planter Tutorial (With Drainage Hole) 🌱Easy Upcycle 🌱

Painted glass jar planters made from recycled jars, designed to function as real planters with added drainage. Finished with spray paint and a diamond-drilled drainage hole, these planters work well for succulents and small plants indoors or outdoors. A versatile upcycle idea for modern, boho, or traditional spaces.

Supplies

-empty glass jars/mason jars of all sizes, with labels removed

-power drill with diamond bit

-safety glasses (recommended when drilling glass to protect eyes)

-water spray bottle (recommended when drilling glass to prevent glass from overheating)

-spray paint

-potting soil

-plant / succulent cuttings

Drill hole on bottom of jar for drainage using diamond bit.

(*this is ESSENTIAL step!! most plants won’t survive without drainage)

SAFETY TIP: Keep glass wet while drilling (a spray bottle works well). Water cools both the glass and diamond bit, which helps prevent overheating and reduces the chance of the jar cracking or shattering. Drill slowly and avoid pressing too hard.
