Upcycled Plastic Juice Bottle Piggy Bank

I have always wanted to make a custom piggy bank, so I decided to build one out of leftover trash to turn it into something fun. I absolutely loved the crafting process. My favorite parts are that it's bright pink, it has cute pink bottle caps, and it has an adorable little tail. Best of all, I love saving money—and it's so much fun watching my new piggy bank 'eat' it.

Supplies List

1. 1 large clear plastic juice bottle (with a rigid, squared body)
2. 5 plastic bottle caps (4 blue caps for the legs, 1 white cap for the snout)
3. Pink acrylic paint and a round sponge dabber brush
4. Pink crafting foam sheet (or thick felt)
5. 2 large googly eyes
6. Clear packaging tape or masking tape
7. 1 pink pipe cleaner
8. Cordless hot glue gun
9. Utility knife

Gather Materials

Set up your workspace with your clear plastic water bottle, five bottle caps, pink craft foam, googly eyes, a pink pipe cleaner, paint supplies, clear tape, a utility knife, and your glue gun. Make sure the bottle is thoroughly rinsed and dried.

Lay the bottle flat on its side. Using an utility knife, carefully cut out a rectangular coin slot centered across one of the rigid ridges on the top side of the bottle. Ensure it is wide enough for coins and folded bills to pass through.

Glue on the Googly Eyes

Position two large googly eyes onto the sloped front neck area of the juice bottle, just above the spout opening. Use your hot glue gun to secure them firmly in place.

Cut two matching triangle-shaped ears from your pink craft foam sheet. Fold the bottom edge of each triangle slightly inward to create a realistic, curved 3D ear shape. Use your hot glue gun to secure them to the plastic bottle just behind and above the eyes.

Use the tip of your utility knife to poke a tiny hole into the center-point of the bottle's bottom base. Twist your pink pipe cleaner into a tight spiral coil, thread the end through the hole to anchor it, and add a dot of hot glue right around the base of the hole to lock the tail securely in place.

Screw the white bottle cap onto the spout to create the pig's snout. Use your sponge dabber brush and pink acrylic paint to paint the outside surfaces of the snout cap and your four blue leg caps. Leave the inner wells of the leg caps unpainted. Set them aside to dry completely.

Flip the bottle completely upside down. Use your hot glue gun to apply a generous ring of glue around the painted rims of your four blue bottle caps. Press them firmly onto the flat four corners of the bottle's underside to complete your pig's sturdy legs.

Once the glue has dried, flip your piggy over and start saving your coins!
