Voltage Regulator With 555 Timer Driving a Servo
This instructables is about a voltage regulator and 555 timer driving a DC servo .See photos .I created this on Tinkercad
The photos above show the Servo rotating .
Supplies
The supplies needed are
5 volt voltage regulator ;
LM 7805 ;1
0.33 uf capacitor (far left)
0.1 capacitor (after voltage regulator)
breadboard (mini )
9 volt battery
leads
555 timer ;
1 k resistor (color ;brown black ,red)
10 k resistor( colors ,brown black ,orange)
100 k resistor (colors brown black ,yellow)
0.1 uf capacitor(small capacitor on top )
4.7 k resistor (color yellow ,purple and red)
10uf capacitor ( connect negative to ground as shown)
breadboard
1 DC ; 5V Servo
Basic Theory
The voltage regulator (LM7805) is used as as 5 volt regulator .It converts a higher DC input in this case 9 volts to 5 volts ..It is used in this circuit (far left)
The 555 timer is used as a clock .It generates pulses .It is used by the servo to regulate its motion from 0 to 180 degrees .
The servo motor is a special motor that rotates It uses 5 volts and pulses from the 555 timer to move .In this circuit it moves from 0-180 degrees in steps .There are different kinds of servos. Some are DC and others are AC .In this circuit it is DC
Servos often used in robotics or control circuits where the motion needs to be controlled .
Note ;the voltmeter on the far left measure 8.98 V.
The second voltmeter measures 5 V
The oscilloscope shows the square wave (pulse) going to the Servo .
Conclusion
In this Instructables ,
I showed how a voltage regulator and 555 timer can drive a Servo .
This is helpful if you do not have a 5 V power supply or Arduino .You can create a circuit driving a Servo with this circuit .
I hope this Instructables helps you to understand a Voltage Regulator ,555 timer and Servo and how they can be used in a circuit .This can be helpful if just using a Servo or using a Servo with Arduino and want to save the other outputs for Arduino
Thank you
