Waist Chain
This was made for the contest and for vacation.
Supplies
- 20-22 gauge wire (metal of your choice)
- Jump ringer
- Needle nose Pliers, toothed pliers, round nose pliers, and wire cutters
- Beads of your choice (I chose brown wood beads and crystal beads)
- Jewelers Saw
- 20 gauge blade
- Wax
- Tape
- C-clamp
- Clasp
Make Jump Rings
- For the chains if you plan to make them:
- Cut a fairly long piece of wire.
- Set up the jump ringer by attaching it to the table using a C-clamp.
- Get a 2 mm rod and secure it in the jump ringer.
- These jump rings will be used to make the chains. Create as many rings to create a chain to fit around your waist, and slightly shorter.
- Get a 4 mm rod and secure it in the jump ringer.
- These jump rings will attach to the beads. Make as many for the amount of beads that you have.
Make Jump Rings Cont.
- Wrap the “coils” of jump rings with tape.
- String the rings on the blade and put the blade on the saw.
- Saw through the rings at an angle, in order to saw through them at an angle, one at a time.
- Then you'll have tiny rings with slits in them.
Make the Chains
- Attach the jump rings to each other to create the chain.
- Hold one ring with the toothed pliers.
- Using the needle nose pliers, bend one side of the ring backwards.
- Put the chain on the ring.
- Close the ring by bending it back.
- Once you make Two chains (one longer than the other), attach the shorter chain to the longer chain.
- Then attach the middle of the longer chain to the middle of the shorter one, making an “upside down M” shape.
Setting Up Beads
- For the rounder beads, put headpins inside to connect to the chains
- To make headpins:
- Get a piece of wire that is 2 times the size of the bead.
- Using the round nose pliers, curl one of the wire into two coils.
- Take the longer end of the wire and string it through the coils and pull tightly. This creates a knotted headpin.
- String the beads onto the head pins.
- Bend the top of the headpin to create the loop.
- Make as many as you need for the amount of beads that you have.
- For beads of other shapes, cut longer pieces of wire, and string the beads onto them (for example, rectangular beads). Then twist the wire to look like the last photo.
Finish Chain
Once you have your chains and beads prepared, you can attach the beads to the chains in your desired design and pattern. Using the pliers, bend the tops of the head pins backwards, similar to jump rings. When you attach all the beads, then you are finished!
